What ever happened to Mr. Eickhoff?
Some of you have asked me what has happened with my father, Mr. Eickhoff. After graduation, my father followed his little girl to Texas were he taught in El Paso, Texas as a high school English teacher and a literary magazine teacher. He had great success with his students. They won nationals several times under his instruction. He also taught at the El Paso Community College and a creative writing class at the University of Texas at El Paso. It was a big change from teaching in Camanche, Iowa. Suddenly the class size jumped up over 800 students! Imagine sitting through that graduation while names were being called!
He continued on with his own studies and now has two doctorates. Yes, we now can officially call him, "The Doctor"! He retired from teaching shortly after receiving his second doctorate due to medical reasons. He is my hero as he has fought cancer for the last ten years losing one kidney. He now lives in Fort Worth a few blocks from me.
To pass his glorious retirement time, he makes several trips up through the rockies to Nebraska and over to the east coast. He also continues to research and write books. I had the pleasure of escorting him up to Oklahoma City a couple of years ago where his book "And not to Yeild" was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame. He won the prestigious Wrangler Award for this book. Only one is given a year.
The best thing about his retirement is he has more time to do the things he loves-reading and writing books. He also has had time to spend with his grandchildren and me! And he is well known for his pool parties and cooking for his neighbors! He certainly hasn't slowed down by all means. He is as feisty as ever. I can't help but love him.
You can view his website at this link and email him directly. He would love to hear from you! http://www.randyeickhoff.com/
